If you make a video call, the call will be muted but the camera feed will continue to stream. To manage your Google account, tap the Manage button. Tap “your account” in the upper right corner of the screen. Hang up” or “End the call” are the options available on the Google Nest Mini, Google Nest Wifi point, and Google Nest Audio; alternatively, you may press the center to end the conversation.
Hands-free calling on Google Home is quite a bit different. Effectively, your Google Home becomes a VoIP speakerphone that can call your Google Contacts and businesses. It also doesn't require the people you are calling to have a Google Home speaker or even a Google account. You can call effectively anyone with a phone number, except emergency numbers. The calling feature turns your Google Home into a landline of sorts, letting you ask Google to call anyone who is in your contacts, as well as local businesses. The only thing Home can't call -- at least not yet -- is an emergency service like 911.
Make your phone contacts available
To end a call, you can say, "OK, Google, hang up," or tap the top of the Google Home speaker. Google Home will place your call over the Wi-Fi connection. While ringing or in call, the light ring on Google Home will be a spinning pale blue.
If you want to use your Nest speakers or displays to make calls to personal contacts though, there are a couple of steps you need to do first. Remember, the feature is only available in the US and Canada. If you're in the UK, we have a separate feature for how to set up Google Duo calling on your Nest speakers and displays. Google's Hands-Free Calling feature allows you to call anyone for free, including personal contacts or local businesses if you are in the US or Canada.
Google-supported calling
Duo calling allows speakers and displays to make and receive video and voice calls to anyone with a Google Duo account. This works worldwide, allows for calls between speakers/displays and mobile devices and calls are free. You can make voice calls using Nest Mini smart speakers -- or video calls with the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max smart displays. Zoom or Google Meet on a laptop might be your usual video calling M.O., but smart displays and speakers are making hands-free video and voice calling easier all the time. Google Nest Hub smart displays can help you Zoom while you make lunch in the kitchen, and Nest Audio and Nest Mini smart speakers can give you hands-free voice calling convenience, too.
Unfortunately, in our testing, Assistant speakers are also not yet compatible with the “Call Home” button in the Google Home app. Hopefully, this will change in the future, as not everyone will necessarily want a smart display, while Google Home Minis are a dime a dozen. Though it might seem like Home is basically just acting as a speakerphone, that’s not the case. Calls are made over Wi-Fi, so they don’t use your phone plan’s minutes. In fact, Google Home calling is entirely separate from your smartphone.
Making Calls with Google Home or Google Home Mini
Google even recently improved this ability to call your home smart display by adding a new “Call Home” button to the Google Home app. With this, the smart display has begun to take the place of the landline home phone of decades past, being able to call your whole family rather than one specific person’s cell phone. Remember that for calling contacts, you will need to have setup Personal Results and given access to your contacts. For calling a Google-listed business, you can just search for them and say "Hey Google, call them". For all other devices, you can make outgoing calls, but you cannot receive incoming calls.
We’re also rolling out beta support for G Suite accounts, so you can host work meetings on your personal Nest Hub Max. G Suite admins who would like to apply on behalf of their domains to join the beta program can sign up atg.co/gsuiteassistantbeta. Next, you need to choose which calling service you’ll use your speaker. The complete instructions are long and a little confusing, and I’ve tried to simplify them here. Follow these steps to make hands-free phone calls on Google Home.

You can also add yourself to the household contacts, which allows guests to call you from your speaker or display. With just your voice, you can call millions of businesses in the US and Canada, thanks to built-in Google Search on Google Nest speakers and displays. So, you'll be able to say "Hey Google, call Bob's Pizza" or "Hey Google, call mum". You can also try, “Hey Google, start a meeting” to connect with up to 100 people onGoogle Meetfor fitness classes, book clubs, community gatherings or whatever else you’ve got planned.
Just say "Ok Google" or "Hey Google" then, "End the call", "Hang up", "Stop", "Disconnect". Feel free to hit him up on Twitter to talk mobile photography, wearables, or basically anything in the world of tech. That’s all there is to it, and hopefully you will find this feature as useful as I do. Call charges will be in accordance with your call provider's plan.
Nest Aware Emergency Calling links you to the 911 call center nearest to your house, depending on the home location you input in the Google Home app. With that, you’re now ready to place a call to your Google Home speakers. In my own example above, I can use “Hey Google, call Light Sleeper” and my Google Home Mini will begin to ring with the usual Duo ringtone. Awkwardly, there isn’t a way to remotely answer this call. We’re also not sure if there’s a way to know who’s calling or to even reject the call, for that matter.

One of the most popular ways people useNest Hub Maxis for video calling. Up until now, that meant one-on-one sessions with friends and family. Rolling out today in the U.S., you can make group video calls with Duo and Google Meet on your Hub Max. With just a simple voice command, Google Assistant can now help connect you with multiple people at once.
To keep this from happening, you’ll want to link your phone number to Google Home—it’s super easy for Project Fi or Google Voice customers, but you can also link a non-Fi/Voice number too. When the phone system gives you the prompt for the option you want, such as "Press 2," say "Hey Google, press 2." With a Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max display, you can also use the dial pad on your screen. You may access the Contact data from your devices by scrolling over to the People and sharing page and tapping there. To access your account, locate the account icon in the bottom-right corner of the app and tap it. Yes, you can use the Google Home app to immediately contact a nearby emergency call center, even if you’re away from Home.
The newly released Nest Hub Max even includes a camera, unlike its smaller predecessor, for use with Google Duo, among other things. All calls using Hands-Free Calling are made over Wi-Fi and are separate from your smartphone. There's no way to call someone else's Nest speaker or smart display however. Google's Hands-Free calling feature only supports outgoing calls, and the only way to use the feature is with your Nest speaker or smart display device. All Google Home speakers and displays can be used for voice calling. There are three different ways your Google speakers and displays make voice calls, but it varies by country as to what is available and features differ too.
Where is Google Home Hands-Free Calling available?
Once set up, you can dial your cousin Cassandra by saying "Hey Google, call Cassandra” or by tapping on Cassandra’s name on your Smart Display's household contacts list. Google supported calling allows for free audio calls to mobile, landline and business phone numbers but you can't receive calls and the service only works in the US, UK and Canada. With carrier calling, you can link your Nest speaker or display with your call provider's mobile or landline phone plan. This allows you to make calls to anyone with a phone number available in your call provider's plan. One of the biggest selling points of Assistant smart displays has been the ability to stay connected through Duo video calling.
